Engaging Sources: Best Practices in Research & Documentation

Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at 3:30pm to 5:00pm

Fleet Library (Main), 228 Mandle Building, 15 Westminster Street, Providence, RI

Researching to gather information, perspectives, and context for academic writing is an integral part of a RISD education. We go to the library to find books and journals, we search online, and we read expansively. There’s no shortage of information out there, but how do we find the right information? And then, how do we read efficiently and critically, select which research to include in our own writing, clearly and elegantly integrate other people’s ideas, and include proper citations? This workshop is not just about avoiding plagiarism, it’s about integrating research and writing and entering the scholarly conversation with confidence.

Led by Claudia Covert, Readers’ Services Librarian, Fleet Library; Jennifer Liese, Director, Writing Center, and Meredith Barrett, Tutoring Coordinator, Writing Center

The same workshop will be offered twice:
Tuesday, January 22, 12:00-1:30 and
Wednesday, January 30, 3:30-5:00

Limit 30 students
