Visiting curator | Namita Gupta Wiggers

The Sculpture department kicks off its fall 2021 visiting artist lecture series with writer, curator and educator Namita Gupta Wiggers. Based in Portland, OR, she is founding director of the MA in Critical Craft Studies at Warren Wilson College, the first and only low-residency program focused on craft histories and theory. She also co-founded and led Critical Craft Forum, an online platform for dialogue and exchange, a podcast and a decade of annual sessions at the College Art Association from 2008–18. From 2004–12, Wiggers served as curator at the Museum of Contemporary Craft in partnership with PNCA, Portland, OR, and from 2012–14 she was chief curator and director. Like her curatorial strategy, her approach to research involves sorting through multiple questions at once and making connections across cultures and ideas that aren’t immediately obvious.
