Visiting Artist | Andrew Bearnot
RISD’s Glass department welcomes artist/educator Andrew Bearnot 08 GL, the third speaker in the Spring ’18 Lecture Series. Bearnot is a materialist; he thinks with and through the substance of things. Informed by a background in material science (BS, Brown University) and glass (BFA, RISD), Bearnot explores moments of transcendence in the everyday.
Bearnot helped establish the Brown/RISD Dual Degree Program in 2008. He was awarded fellowships from Fulbright and the American-Scandinavian Foundation for research on glassmaking traditions in Sweden and Denmark. While completing his MFA, Bearnot received a Graduate Collaboration Grant from the Arts, Science & Culture Initiative for his ongoing project Molecular Movement. He is currently a post-MFA teaching fellow at the University of Chicago and artist-in-residence at both the Hyde Park Arts Center in Chicago and Museum of Arts and Design (MAD) in New York City.
Lecture series funded in part by the Page Hazlegrove Fund, Koichi Hamada and Carolyn M. Beaudin in memory of Kotaro Hamada.
