Visiting designers | Thomas Gardner and Desmond DeLanty

No matter how its boundaries are redefined, architecture still provides shelter, erects structures, organizes movement and ideas, stimulates perception and engages culture. Visiting designers Thomas Gardner and Desmond DeLanty will discuss the Design-Build method, which allows us to engage construction at full scale—not only as a means to an end but also as something of value that engages society. Using the Big Build, an annual Design-Build workshop based in Hangzhou, China, as a case study, they will engage RISD students and faculty from all disciplines in this important conversation linking pedagogy and practice. Free and open to the public. Pizza by Nice Slice will be available.
