Visiting Speakers | Rural Studio
Rural Studio is a program of the undergraduate school of architecture at Auburn University in Alabama. For 25 years, students have designed and built homes, parks and public buildings such as a town hall, fire station and library in Hale County, one of the poorest parts of Alabama, and in the backyard of the university. Recently the studio began to establish its own garden-to-table farm, with the goal of feeding itself. Andrew Freear, who has been director for 17 years, and architect Elena Barthel, who taught at the studio for eight years, will share the inside story.
