RISD/NY: Politics, Alumni and Effecting Change

Join RISD/NY and a panel of alumni as we discuss and present design actions in response to the current political climate.


Ashleigh Axios [08 GD] is an international speaker, strategic creative and advocate for design's ability to break barriers and create positive social change. She is also the former creative director of the the Obama White House.

Willem Van Lancker [10 GD] is an entrepreneur and cofounder of ebooks company Oyster (now a part of Google). He is also a volunteer and design advisor for the New York Immigration Coalition and several progressive Brooklyn democrats.

John Caserta is a designer and an associate professor in the Graphic Design department at RISD.

Moderated by Andrew Freeman [02 GD], founder and principal of afreeman design, who serves on the Citizen Designer Now! committee, as well as the board of AIGA NY.

Refreshments provided by James Wynn [98 GD] and BKLYN Larder.

Thoughtworks is a software company and a community of passionate, purpose-led individuals. They think disruptively to deliver technology to address clients' toughest challenges, all while seeking to revolutionize the IT industry and create positive social change.

RISD/NY is the New York City alumni club of the Rhode Island School of Design. The club seeks to optimize the abundant art and design backdrop of greater NYC to provide educational, inspirational and social experiences that enrich the lives of the RISD creative community, while fostering lifelong connections with the college.
