RISD Zero Waste | Wild Edible Plant Walk
Join RISD Zero Waste Alumni for an in-person foraging and plant identification walk in Prospect Park with Marie Viljoen, author of Forge, Harvest, Feast: A Wild-Inspired Cuisine. While edible plants are the focus of the walk, all plants are part of the discussion. We will discover native and exotic plants and question the meaning of the word weed. Learn what parts of plants are safe to eat, why and how to prepare them. Discuss the ethics of foraging, urban population issues, sustainability and biodiversity—all tying into Viljoen’s approach to conservation foraging. The approximately two-mile walk ends with a shared, wild-inspired tasting picnic featuring seasonal ingredients.
