RISD's Photography department welcomes Gary Metz lecturer Daniel Shea (b. 1985), who lives and works in NYC. Shea earned his MFA from the University of Illinois at Chicago and has been a resident artist at Light Work (Syracuse) and Columbia College Chicago’s Digital Artist-In-Residence program, where he published his first book. He has published two photo books about a fictional coal town, Blisner, IL, in 2012 and 2014. 43-35 10th Street, a new artist book about contemporary architecture, is forthcoming from Kodoji Press, Switzerland.
Recent solo exhibitions include Blisner at Gallery Space, London and 43-35 10th Street at Andrew Rafacz Gallery, Chicago, which represents Shea. His work has recently been included in group exhibitions at Robert Blumenthal Gallery, New York; Museum of Contemporary Photography, Chicago; Vava Gallery, Milan. His work has been featured in The New York Times Magazine, Fantastic Man, M Le Monde, Sculpture Magazine and The Fader and is included in Photography Is Magic (Aperture, 2015).
