RISD Global infosession | RISD in Rome
Join faculty member Anne Marika Chasse for a course-specific infosession on the Global Summer Studies 2020 course RISD in Rome: Form, Leather, Color and Craft. This travel course at RISD's site in Rome will immerse you in new surroundings and introduce you to the concepts of form and color through the manipulation of vegetable-tanned leather in combination with found objects.
Using hand tools and pigments, students will create forms based on their collected impressions and experiences. The new context of Rome—as well as visits to the Venice Biennale, craftspeople in Murano and Burano islands, and upscale Tuscan tanneries—will connect students to the past and future of leathercraft, allowing them to combine the ancient skills of making with their own skill-sets, aspirations and interests.
The class offers three academic credits. Registration is open from now through April 12 on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Global Summer Studies are open to
- Current RISD students (undergrad and grad)
- Recent RISD alumni
- Current students (or recent graduates) at other art and design institutions worldwide
