Faculty workshop | Guilds, Anagrammatics and Techniques of Ordering II: On Monuments
Please join SEI Fellow Chris Roberts for Guilds, Anagrammatics and Techniques of Ordering II: On Monuments, the second of a workshop series that will provide an opportunity for participants to reflect on three concepts from three Black scholars; Michel-Rolph Trouillot (guild), Christina Sharpe (anagrammatical),and Sylvia Wynter (techniques of ordering). For Wynter, techniques of ordering are the reworkings and elaborations of intellectuals and disciplines that are “able to ensure the existence of each orders conceptual framework… in order to provide the 'inner eyes' by whose mode of subjective understanding, each order's subjects regulate their behaviors, for both enormous good and evil.” In this session, we will focus on maps as representations of the “inner eyes” of conquest that can be shoaled in such a way that alternate expressions of space and place may re-emerge.
