Graduate thesis talk | Elena Kalkova MA 21 GAC

In our summer series of graduate thesis talks, you'll hear from recent graduates from the class of 2021 as they discuss their work and research and share about their time at RISD. Hosted by Holly Gaboriault MA 21 GAC. Open to the public.

A graduate of the first Liberal Arts MA degree, Global Arts & Cultures, Elena Kalkova examines the Russian queer cultural production from the Medieval Slavs up to the current goverment under Vladimir Putin. With an interest in public art and contemporaneous intersections, Kalkova argues that Russia's recovery from generational regime censorship and the institutioned "forced memory loss" feminist and queer diasporas contain a great capacity to inform Russian art history and our contemporary landscape.
