Workshop | The City as Body, Act 1

RISD’s Center for Complexity presents The City as Body Act 1: Action Theater for Systemic Challenges. The first in a series of three initiatives, this workshop teaches faculty members to identify systemic challenges starting with their personal experience. Groups will act out and explore these challenges in a process of co-creation with open-ended interpretations toward possible outcomes. Participants will learn to understand performative behavior and decision making and find creative expressions of co-production. By using the body and the mind, they will work toward transformation.

This workshop will be led by Arianna Mazzeo, an educator, activist and design performer working at the intersection of creativity, design and education for civic community engagement. In her applied research practice as faculty at Harvard and as an affiliate of the Center for Complexity, Mazzeo works to activate new pedagogies addressing complex systemic challenges through nontraditional design interventions and interdisciplinary performative practices for community and place through collaboration.
