Exhibition | Residual Hauntings
RISD welcomes the Providence community to Residual Hauntings, curated by Sarah Goldman 23 PR and Emma Florance 22 PT. Residual Hauntings invites the viewer to navigate the phantasmal realm of psychogeography, showing works depicting the loss of the present, images in which our histories have become removed from time but remain immovably connected to place. The fluidity and destruction of time and space, combined with the durability of objects or dwellings, allows relics from the past to be catapulted into our present and vice-versa. The emotional resonance of such items reveals places and spaces as capable of holding memory. This leads to the possibility not of haunted houses, but invisible, haunted cities in which emotionally significant moments in private lives have been absorbed by public spaces.
