The I Who Is Not Me presents several collaboratively made pieces by the second-year MFA students. Pulling inspiration from Fluxus artists and the daily ritual practices of Yoko Ono, this exhibition eliminates authorship and focuses on restoring an essence of community experimentation. Gleaning its title from the essay of the same name, these new works reckon with novelist Zadie Smith’s position on mutating autobiography. As she writes, “Not to take yourself as a natural, unquestionable entity can lead you in turn to become aware of the radical contingency of life in general, its supremely accidental nature.”
